Isn’t it awkward when you’re in a group of people and have no idea what anyone is talking about? If it’s ever happened to you, you know exactly what I’m talking about. You’re trying to follow along, maybe you laugh when everyone else does, or just plain and simple stand there looking confused.
For years I have seen the same thing done when it comes to church video announcements. That’s why at Announcements.church we’ve been encouraging churches of all sizes to practice what we like to call, The Fifty Percent Rule.
What is the Fifty Percent Rule? Well, it’s pretty simple,
if what you want to talk about doesn’t apply to 50% or more of your congregation on a Sunday it doesn’t warrant the attention of your entire congregation and should be left out of your weekly video announcements.
It sounds simple right? In reality, the majority of churches break the rule each and every week. Now, no one is going to jail, no one is going to have people walk out of the church by breaking this rule. But it eventually does something that directly defeats and goes against everything that we set out to accomplish with weekly video announcements. When we talk about things that don’t directly apply to the majority of our congregations, people quickly learn to tune out because what is being said doesn’t apply to them. When people “tune out” next steps can’t be taken, people can’t be connected with the right groups, and as a result, communication breaks down.
At Announcements.church we believe that less, is in fact more. When video announcements or announcements shared from any stage are easy to understand, to the point, engaging and give next steps something great happens. Clear communication. So at Announcements.church, while we don’t control what you want to be said, we set the announcement limit to a maximum of seven per week. Why? There are a few reasons why, but all of them have to do with keeping communication as simple and efficient as possible.
By keeping announcements to seven or less odds are this will prevent the announcement time of your service from going into the double digits. It’ll also make sure (hopefully) that only what applies to the majority of the people in your congregation will get mentioned. Keeping everyone engaged and tuned in the entire time.
Here’s to great video announcements 🙏
